The naked lunch
Going to a strip club for the dinner is a bit like reading Playboy for the articles. Or so one might assume. In fact, there are some pretty decent eats on offer at some of these joints.
And the food ain’t bad either.
Take New Locomotion, at 2325 Matheson Blvd. E., for one. Conveniently located for jetsetters looking for layover entertainment, this recently renovated club sports just a modest kitchen, but from it springs such gastronomic delight. A fella can get 14 deep-fried wontons here, a toasted western or a clubhouse with fries. Most popular, says head chef, Tom? Chicken stir fry, with vegetables, on rice.
A pasties’ toss away, The Landing Strip, at 191 Carlingview Dr., offers patrons choice off a menu organized in the spirit of things, with headers such as Foreplay (appetizers), Seductive Sandwiches and Do it Like a Rabbit (salads…what were you thinking?). The top-heavy pizza comes particularly recommended.
And Treasures Gentleman’s Nightclub, at 5745 Atlantic Dr., sports an even more ambitious menu. At the upstairs Eldorado Grille, diners enjoy white tablecloth service on granite tabletops from high-back chairs. There, they might feast on such delicacies as Tequila crab cakes, honey Dijon lamb chops, even New York striploin, and then wash it all down with tartuffo or crème brulée. More than that, they can still see the dancing ladies on the stage downstairs courtesy of an open balcony concept.
“The girls are obviously an added bonus with these places,” director Scott Kurtzman concedes. “But there have been cases where people will actually come for a nice dinner.”
